MAC Make Up Art Cosmetics Fall 2009 Collection Loves

On Tuesday night, I had the chance to attend my first MAC new collection release event. After much anticipation Ren, Joy, and myself got to swatch until our hearts were content as we browsed and purchased items from the Make Up Art Collection. This fall collection launches August 20th.

This is the free poster I got...not sure what I'll do with it. It's by artist Richard Phillips. As an artist myself, I really liked the theme of this collection, a fusion between make up and art. What is so unique is that three artists from various arenas were able to create his or her own interpretation of their artwork through the collection.

Here's painter Richard Phillips' interpretation.

According to wikipedia...Phillips is known for his large-scale glossy hyper-realistic paintings, recalling the pictorial style of magazines from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s and reflecting traditions of popular image culture. His paintings represent close-up portraits, predominantly of women from fashion and soft porno magazines, but also persons from the fields of pop music and politics. He says "My Pictures involve a kind of wasted beauty-that's always been a thread in my work."
One of his pieces.

Here's illustrator Maira Kalman's interpretation.
Photobucket
According to wikipedia...she's an American illustrator, author, artist, and designer who authored a series of children's books about Max Stravinsky, the poet-dog. She has done The New Yorker covers, including an iconic one she did with Rick Meyerowitz called New Yorkistan. She created the sets for the Mark Morris Dance Group production of Four Saints in Three Acts, an opera by Virgil Thompson and Gertrude Stein. Kalman is also known for her illustrations for the 2005 edition of the popular guide to writing style, The Elements of Style, by William Strunk and E.B. White.
A look at one of her works.

Here's photographer Marilyn Minter's interpretation.

Wikipedia states that Marilyn Minter created a series of photographic studies that involved her drug-addicted mother, explored Pop-derived pictures often incorporating sexuality, and became more famous in 1990 through her tv ad, 100 Food Porn came. Since then, her work has become more refined, exuding a sense of glamour and high-fashion. One of her tamer images.

Maybe because it was my first event, but I was quite impressed. I fell in love with two of the three eye shadow quads, Notoriety and Photo Realism. These are gorgeous quads that appear subtle but are the perfect compliment to the collection's more vivid eyekohls. The pigments didn't catch my attention, mainly because I feel like I don't use the ones I have enought to buy more. The lipsticks seemed like more of the same.

Photorealism has the shades:
Photorealism - Gold shimmer with gold pearl (Frost)
Fresh Approach - Cool mint green (Veluxe Pearl)
Image Maker - Mid-tone grey green (Frost)
Grey Range - Deep blue green (Veluxe Pearl)

Notoriety has the shades:
Skintone 1- Light white pink (Lustre)
Skintone 2- Mid tone gold (Frost)
Notoriety - Mid tone brown with gold pearl (Velvet)
Rich & Earthy - Rich coral bronze

The lipglass I picked up is Personal Taste, a mid-tone rose with pink gold pearl (LE). Looking back, I probably should have gotten Young Thing as well because it is a yellow neutral with gold pearl...trying to get away from my usual pink gloss. Lastly, I got the Technakohl Liner in Artistic License, a bright turquoise blue(LE).

The collection looks soo pretty. I like the whole concept behind it. The pigments looks so rich and beautiful.

HA! I cant belive you saw Ren. Shes awesome. I like Joy too.

Btw thanks for stopping by my mark store and placing and order. Just to let you know, the blush and eye shadows comes in a pan by itself without the case. you have to buy those separately which is kind of a bummer.

Thanks again and have a great one.
