If your're like me you're thinking that the winter elements have left your hair feeling extra dry and a whole lot less manageable than normal. One of my girlfriends and I have been pondering over the reasons we are both experiencing similar hair issues and here's what I have discovered. I needed to get clarified! Using my usual favorite serums on my hair like Biosilk,UNA Designing Oil Non Oil(my ultimate hair serum), and most recently Lanza Healing Strength Neem Plant Silk Serum (which I love so far for it's softening effects) has left my once pliable and untangly hair feeling wiry and hardened after I shampoo and condition. Don't get me wrong, these are not bad products, but like any products they work great for awhile and then can build up on the hair. I thought my recent hair woes were due to me starting a regular exercise routine and my new habit of just washing it every few days and wearing it in a ponytail. But that was not the case. I decided to ask one of the sales ladies (who is also a stylist) at Sally's for her suggestions. After I gave her the run through of my hair routine she declared that it was the build up of silicon based products (my serums) that have my hair in need of a serious clarifying shampoo. According to hairfinder.com...
The most commonly found silicone derivative ingredients are:
• Phenyl Trimethicone - Water resistant silicone, adds shine and
flexibility.
• Dimethicone - A silicone derivative. Adds luster and sheen.
• Dimethicone Copolyol - Same as above and is water soluble.
• Cyclomethicone - A silicone derivative. Adds luster and sheen.
So after feeling relieved from the diagnosis and such a simple cure, I purchased a clarifying shampoo by Ion, which is made to eliminate build-up from styling aids, weighty conditioners, and minerals.

I also decided to get a new ceramic iron, since my current FHI has a crack in the side of it. So I opted for another FHI, the Heat Technique G2 Pink Styling Iron...love the limited edition pink color.

Good thing I did because I got a free mini travel FHI.

Lastly, I decided to go back to my college days of routinely using Fermodyl after every shampoo. It was buy one, get one free...a really good deal because one vial is $3.99 and you get a 3 pack for $8.99 and then one 3-pack for free.

(Excuse my toe shot in the last pic) So I ran home to get clarified and to call my gf to spread my hair diagnosis. As I shampooed I could feel my hair saying "thank you". Never again will I forget to clarify on a regular basis.
